The Communicative Method
The Communicative Method is an approach to language learning that prioritizes communication skills as the main goal of the learning process. It emphasizes the ability of students to use the language effectively and meaningfully in real-life situations, rather than just focusing on memorizing grammar rules and vocabulary.
This method is based on the idea that learning a foreign language involves not only understanding grammatical structures and vocabulary but also developing the ability to interact with others. Therefore, teaching focuses on improving listening comprehension, speaking skills, reading comprehension, and writing production.
Students are encouraged to actively engage in communication from the very beginning, even if they have limited language skills. The lessons are interactive and include activities such as dialogues, debates, problem-solving tasks, and real-life simulations.
Mistakes are seen as a natural part of the learning process, and students are encouraged to experiment and take risks to improve their communication skills. The teacher acts as a facilitator, guiding and supporting students while providing feedback to help them correct errors and improve their language proficiency.
The Communicative Method is widely used in language schools and foreign language programs worldwide. It is based on the belief that language learning is more effective when students are engaged and motivated to use the language in communicative contexts, preparing them for real-world conversations in daily life.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take to learn from scratch?
This depends on how many lessons you take per week and your personal dedication to learning.
Are there any exams?
Not necessarily. If a student wants to be assessed, regular tests can be provided.
Do I receive a certificate?
Yes, at the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of participation.
Can I get a receipt for reimbursement?
As an independent teacher, I am not registered with the Chamber of Commerce, but I issue a document called Kwitantie (Dutch term), which is accepted by companies that pay for their employees’ language courses.
Can more people join my lessons?
If you pay for individual lessons, only you can participate. However, if you would like to include one or two additional students, we can discuss a discounted price for small group lessons.
Do I need to buy a book?
Yes and no. I use practical textbooks, but if you prefer a digital version (e-book) with the same content, that’s totally fine. If you already own a language book, we can use that as well. Additional learning materials will be sent for free via email or WhatsApp.
Can I study more than one language at the same time?
Absolutely! If you already know some English, you can practice it while learning Dutch, and vice versa.
Do you offer refunds?
No. If a student quits for personal reasons, the payment is non-refundable. That’s why I work with monthly payments and small lesson packages, allowing students to stop at any time.
Important Note:
Lessons canceled in less than 8 hours’ notice will be charged as completed.
